If we are gone, your vault is not.
What happens to your vault if our team is no longer here to deliver it
Efterlad is built and run by a small team in Copenhagen. The honest truth is that companies can fail, and the people who run them can be in accidents. If the founders were in a car crash tomorrow, or if the company quietly failed five years from now, what would happen to the vault you trusted us with?
This page is the answer. It is not a marketing claim. It is a legal structure we built before we shipped the product, on the principle that the right way to make a long promise is to make it verifiable in advance, not believable in retrospect.
At its heart, the structure runs three layers deep. Efterlad as the active operator. An established Copenhagen practice, Aumento Law Firm, as the legal trustee. And a globally recognized firm standing as a backup behind them.
What happens, step by step.
From the day you write your first letter, through every audit and every contingency, to the day your archive reaches the right hands.
- I.Today
Efterlad operates normally. Your archive is encrypted, held on European servers, and backed up daily to a separate German data centre. We check in with you once a year. We deliver to the people you chose when the time comes.
- II.Each year, an audit
Aumento independently reviews our delivery records for every vault we sent out in the previous twelve months. They confirm each one reached the recipients you chose, working from receipts and delivery logs. They never see the contents inside.
- III.Should anything happen to us
Bankruptcy. The prolonged incapacity or death of the founders. Any event that prevents our team from continuing to run the platform. This is the contingency the power of attorney was built for.
- IV.Aumento takes over, by law
The power of attorney activates. Aumento steps in as the legal authority over Efterlad, funded by the continuation reserve we hold with them, separate from our operating accounts so it survives any insolvency event. They already hold the emergency credentials, can hire developers if needed, and are bound to keep the platform running for everyone already inside. No new customers are taken on. Every existing vault is delivered as originally promised, when the time comes.
- V.Even if Aumento itself ceased
The power of attorney names a successor party who inherits the same duty. The promise is layered, not pinned to any single law firm.
What every careful person asks.
I.How do I actually know you are delivering vaults to recipients?
open
Aumento independently audits every delivered vault each year. They confirm the recipients you named were contacted, with the contents you placed. If a delivery did not happen, the audit catches it. This is the structural answer; we do not ask you to take it on faith.
II.What kind of event would actually cause Aumento to step in?
open
Bankruptcy. The prolonged incapacity or death of the founders. Any event that prevents our team from continuing to operate the platform. Aumento does not co-manage Efterlad in normal operation. They audit it. They only take over the running of the company when the power of attorney activates.
III.What does Aumento actually do once they take over?
open
They keep Efterlad running on behalf of the people already inside it. The platform stays online. The annual check-ins still go out. Existing vaults still deliver to existing recipients when the time comes. They can hire engineers and operators if needed. They do not take on new customers. The focus is entirely on honouring what was already promised.
IV.How is Aumento paid to keep going?
open
A continuation reserve held with Aumento, separate from Efterlad’s operating accounts so it survives any insolvency event affecting the company. The reserve covers operating costs: storage, infrastructure, legal time, engineering. The exact structure (escrow, dedicated fund, retainer) is the subject of our working agreement with Aumento, which we will publish here in full once signed.
V.What if Aumento itself ceases to exist?
open
The power of attorney names a successor party who inherits the same duty. The intent is to keep the obligation alive even if any single named law firm disappears.
VI.How do you make sure the recipient does not miss the delivery?
open
We try every reasonable channel to find each recipient: email, SMS, WhatsApp, and (if their address is on file) a printed letter to their door. We do not give up after one bounced email. Once a recipient has received and downloaded their copy, the archive’s work is done; the platform also keeps the archive accessible for return visits during the first year, so they can come back to it during the time of grief.
The trust chain.
Three layers of responsibility. Each one ready to step in if the layer before it cannot.
Efterlad
The team running the platform today. We hold your archive, check in with you each year, and deliver to the people you chose when the time comes.
Aumento
An established Copenhagen law firm. aumento.dk. Holds a lasting power of attorney over Efterlad. Audits us each year, and takes over by law if we cannot.
The Successor
A globally recognized firm, chosen for institutional permanence. Activates only if Aumento itself ever ceases. The name will be published here once finalised.
A kill switch for a kill switch for a kill switch. It is very hard to imagine a sequence of events that would interrupt all three.
