Place it in the archive
Write letters or upload photographs, voice notes, videos, and practical documents. Leave behind instructions to help them manage the future alongside the memories to bring them comfort. Gather the pieces of your life in one secure vault. Add what matters at your own pace.
II.
Mark each entry's keeper
Decide who receives what. Assign the practical files to your spouse, the photographs to your daughter, and a private voice note to an old friend. Recipients only learn what is waiting for them when the day finally arrives. Never a single moment sooner.
III.
Live without thinking of it
Once a year, we ask you to log in to show you are still here. If you miss it, we send reminders via email and SMS for three months. If we hear nothing, the capsule securely opens for the specific people you have already chosen.

Why I built this.

Efterlad/ef·ter·lad/
verb·Danish.·to leave behind.

I started Efterlad because I needed somewhere to put the things I did not want time to take from me.

The thoughts that arrive in the middle of an ordinary day. The small memories I keep assuming I will remember later. The stories, letters, videos, and practical details I want my daughter and the people I love to have one day.

Life moves fast. The sharp details get softened by routine. A voice, a laugh, a strange little habit, a moment in the car. The things that make someone feel real can disappear long before we realize they needed saving.

But as I tried to secure these pieces, ordinary tools fell short. A cloud folder only survives until my credit card expires. A digital album requires her to remember it exists. Most ways to leave things behind only work while I am around to manage them.

Efterlad delivers itself. You choose what to leave behind and who should receive it, and the archive arrives entirely without you. You can see exactly how the yearly check-in safely handles this once you begin.

I built Efterlad because I needed it. Maybe you do too.

Considered, deliberate security.

Encryption and TLS
Files are encrypted at rest at the storage layer and served over TLS. Access is scoped per user and logged.
Sovereign EU storage
Hosted in Frankfurt with an ISO 27001-certified provider, inside EU jurisdiction. Files are isolated per user.
Independent legal trustee
Aumento Law Firm in Denmark holds emergency credentials. If anything ever prevents us from operating, they keep delivering the archive on our behalf.

I record a short video for my children every month. The practical things, where the papers are kept, what I’ve learned about money and friendship. And the other things, what I hope for them. So they never stand alone when life turns.

What you might want to know

I.

How will you know I have passed away?

Once a year, we ask you to confirm you're still here. If you don't respond, we send reminders for three months by email and SMS. If you take no action in that window, the archive is released to your recipients.

II.

What if I'm travelling, or away for a long time?

You can pause the check-ins for two, three, or five years from the Check-in page in your account. The pause is prepaid so your subscription stays funded the whole time, with no risk of a lapsed card while you are away. Your archive stays sealed and intact, and you can resume the check-ins early at any time.

III.

How secure are my files?

Your files are encrypted at rest at the storage layer and served over TLS. Servers are in Frankfurt, Germany, with an ISO 27001-certified provider, inside EU jurisdiction. Files are scoped per user and access is logged. We are not end-to-end encrypted. The archive is recoverable by Efterlad on your behalf, by design, so we can deliver it to your recipients on the day the capsule opens.

IV.

Can I change the contents later?

Yes, always. You can add, remove or change files and recipients as long as your account is active. The archive only ever opens after you have passed. There are no scheduled delivery dates to set.

V.

Couldn't I just use Dropbox or a cloud folder?

Cloud storage works while you are around to manage it. The folder requires someone who knows it exists, has the password, and remembers to look for it. If your laptop is gone, the account locked, or the person you wanted to reach never knew about it, the files stay where they are. Efterlad delivers itself. Each person you named receives exactly what was meant for them, on a schedule that runs without anyone watching. The platform is also backed by Aumento Law Firm in Denmark, our independent legal trustee, so the promise survives even if we don't. That kind of legal continuity is normally arranged through your own estate lawyer at several thousand dollars a year in retainer fees. Included with every subscription.

VI.

Can recipients see the archive before I pass?

No. Recipients are only notified and granted access when the archive is released. You can preview at any time what each of them will receive, and you can see an example of the page they will land on.

VII.

What if I lose access to my email?

Use a personal email when you begin, one you will keep for years, not a work address. From Settings you can also link a recovery phone number; once verified, your phone can be used to sign in if your inbox ever goes dark. If you lose access to both, write to hi@efterlad.com and we will verify who you are through other means and restore access by hand.

VIII.

How much does it cost?

$99 per year. You can try Efterlad with up to three memories for free before subscribing. The free tier lets you feel how the product works; delivery to your recipients only activates once you subscribe, because that promise depends on us being funded to keep the platform and the legal trustee in place for the long term.

IX.

What happens if Efterlad ever closes?

Your archive does not depend on us being around. Efterlad has partnered with Aumento Law Firm in Denmark as our legal trustee. If anything ever prevents us from operating, Aumento holds emergency credentials and acts on our behalf: making your archive available for you to download and keep, and where needed continuing the platform's promise so your capsules still reach the right hands. The trust is structured to outlast the company. Your recipients are never involved while you are still here; that promise does not change.

A private archive. Not a hard drive.

A single, quiet place for the things a will cannot hold. One yearly plan keeps your letters, photographs, voice notes, and films ready for the people you love.
